Everything You Need to Know About Toggle Clasps

Toggle clasps are great because they are versatile, easy to use, and can turn any handmade piece of jewelry into an elegant masterpiece. Toggle clasps are a popular choice of closure because of how attractive and unique they are. Sometimes, you may even find toggle clasps that are adorn with gemstones or diamonds! Given how special they are, these clasps can even be worn in the front of the neck as a centerpiece. Here are some important tips and information to remember when working with toggle clasps.

What is a toggle clasp?

A toggle clasp consists of a metal bar that goes through a loop (usually circular) and keeps a necklace or bracelet closed.

How do I attach a toggle clasp?

Simply crimp your toggle clasp onto your beading wire using crimp beads and crimping pliers. Pro-Tip: Be sure to end your necklace or bracelet with smaller beads. If your last few beads are too large, your toggle clasp will not work!

How do I choose the right toggle clasp?

As with all closures and findings, choose a toggle clasp that is appropriate in size with the rest of your beads. Decide whether it is worth investing in a sterling silver or gold-filled toggle clasp based on how sensitive your skin is, how often you plan on wearing the piece, and how special the beads are to you.
